I’ll never say no to a long weekend in the Rockies—especially if we’re camping. Something about sleeping on the ground feels exciting to me, regardless of the potential back aches and dirt creeping through the door. Give me a tent and a campfire, and I’m a happy girl.
The famed Icefields Parkway is one of my favourite Rocky Mountain drives. This beautiful stretch of road winds under the shadow of rocky peaks. Lookout points are scattered along the highway, but stop sparingly if you’re on a timeline. We stopped at Saskatchewan River Crossing for snacks and a stretch.
I left a piece of my heart at Pyramid Lake. Even though we went in the afternoon, very few others had the same idea.
We ended the weekend with the easy hike up Old Fort Point. Jasper National Park rewards the gradual 40-minute climb with views of the townsite and neighbouring mountains. I don’t know about you, but I live for this blue-green hue.
